The defense and prosecutors were both disappointed Thursday when Judge Sullivan denied the plea agreement that would have seen Daniel Keyser receive a particularly small sentence for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his former girlfriend. Both sides had large contingents in the courtroom. And while the alleged victim was pleased with the outcome of the hearing — she did not approve of the deal and wants the case to go to trial — pretty much everyone was surprised by the decision. The assistant prosecutor said he had never had this happen before. Now a jury trial awaits Keyser.
