Sen. Hatfield, Washington State Capitol, Olympia, Wa.

On Friday I got the opportunity to spend a few hours with state senator Brian Hatfield at the state capitol. For about 20 of my now 35 years I have lived in Washington and this was the first time I had ever been inside the capitol. The thing about the capitol? Everything is marble.

Speaking of 35, that's what I turned yesterday.

IHS @ state wrestling championship tourney, Tacoma Dome, Tacoma, Wa.

Four matches in about four hours, ahh, state wrestling. Despite all the down time, it was cool to shoot the four Fishermen who made it to the dome. Unfortunately three were eliminated in their first two matches — Elliot Marcus, Adam Hernandez and Hunter Stockfleth — while Tommy Odneal was went 1-2 in three matches.

IHS girls nearly knock off number one Castle Rock, Kelso, Wa.

Despite an outstanding defensive effort, the Lady Fishermen were eliminated from the playoffs after nearly knocking off number one seed Castle Rock. The Ilwaco girls held the Rockets to a season low 31 points (they average 49.2 ppg while going 20-0 in the regular season). If Ilwaco could have just gotten a few more shots to fall they would have advanced to the regional portion of the state tournament.

Tomorrow, state wrestling, then its on to spring sports — outside again, yeah!...well, you know, if the entire seasons don't get rained out...

Postseason play, Castle Rock and Chehalis, Wa.

Ilwaco advanced four wrestlers  — plus two alternates — to the state championships next week with a fine showing at the regional tournament in Castle Rock today. From what I hear that is the largest group of Fishermen to ever make it to the Tacoma Dome.

Then it was 20 mins up the road to Chehalis where the Ilwaco girls knocked out a Stevenson team that had beat them twice this year.

Logan Manecke had a great game, really playing hard and containing a 6-3 girl on the other team. You can see why her back was a bit sore by the end.

The girls now face Castle Rock, which lost its first game of the year Saturday, in a winner to state loser goes home game on Wednesday in Kelso.

B&G Club Valentine's dance, Ilwaco, Wa.

It's been a pretty cool couple of days. Yesterday my rescue photo of Dale Ostrander was awarded second place in the spot news photo category of the Pictures of the Year International competition. I think it's safe to say that for people in my profession, the POYi is the big one, and I've wanted to place in since I first started doing what I do, back in 1995.
Then tonight I got to shoot my 10-year-old daughters first dance. The Boys and Girls Club hosted a Valentine dance and to my surprise boys and girls were both dancing, even together at times, pretty cool. BTW, Kenz is a total dance machine.
