Seven local girls from Long Beach and Naselle schools were performers in the Astoria School of Ballet's production of Peter and the Wolf at the Liberty this morning (there's another show tonight at 7).

Ross Kukula, Ilwaco boys win it all, DuPont, Wa.

Was in DuPont today for the final round of the 1A boys golf championships. Once again (third straight, fourth in five years) the Ilwaco boys team claimed the title. Perhaps even more exciting, junior Ross Kukula came from six shots off the lead after the front nine to win by two strokes, becoming the first individual state champ in any sport in school history.

Also decided to break the status quo, left the long lenses in the car, shot with a 35, 50 and 85, and was pretty happy how it came out. The weather was dramatic, with sun shining through huge storm clouds that would open up and dump every half hour or so.

Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday.

IHS district track, Kalama, Wa.

On my way to shoot the District IV track meet tonight I picked up a new toy, a Fuji X100 digital rangefinder camera. I'd been drooling over it since it was first announced almost two years ago. I figured give it a spin at some sports, which its really not designed for, and if it fairs well then it'll probably be able to handle just about anything. While not perfect for the task necessarily, I was pretty pleased with what I came back with.

NHS District 2B track meet, Raymond, Wa.

Spent some time shooting with the homemade Holga lens too, which I enjoyed very much. Also enjoyed the opportunity to talk a little with MacLeod Pappidas of the Daily World.
