Dry cranberry harvest, North Cove, Wa.

After living and working here for 11 years, and photographing the cranberry harvest most of those years, I tried something new this year. On the Peninsula the cranberry farmers do a wet harvest where they flood their bogs. In north county they do a dry harvest, a far more labor intensive way.
You'd think that with all that red I'd show these in color. Instead I was taken with how the textures involved in the process looked in B&W, so here you go

Dan Driscoll, Willapa Bay tide land, Oysterville, Wa.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but Dan Driscoll was one of the first people I met when I moved to the Peninsula 11 years ago. I've been happy to call him a friend in the time since and I'm always happy when I get to photograph him while he works. This week he is being featured on the front page in a story about his fight with the county to keep his business open.
