Wild turkey, windsprints and women, Long Beach & Ilwaco, Wa.

A lost turkey started knocking on doors in a Long Beach neighborhood yesterday and no one seems to know where he came from, so I went out meet old Tom. After that it was IHS track from the crows nest above the field to spare myself the soak from the rain. Then back to LB for a women's rights rally put together by Maddie.

Pacific County Democrats annual crab feed, South Bend, Wa.

You can't have a political gathering without saying the pledge of allegiance. And you can't say the pledge without a flag. But what happens when the venue you're holding your event has misplaced its flag? You grab the nearest cop and pledge to the flag on his shoulder.

Tonight's Dems crab feed featured a number of local, state and federal politicians and candidates including US Congressman Jay Inslee, the Democratic candidate for governor, and US Senator Maria Cantwell (who is saying hello to my favorite Ilwaco city councilor).

Color feature hunt, Bay Center, Wa.

This afternoon I drove to South Bend to shoot NHS at a track meet. Only problem? They decided not to go and didn't tell anybody. So my editor suggested a little color feature hunting in the small bay port town of Bay Center on the way back. So me and the Grizz took a long walk around, and this is what we saw.

The return of the Chinook School gymnasium, Chinook, Wa.

On Sunday, the refurbished Chinook School gymnasium was reopened/dedicated. The place was packed with locals and alums of the old school. It's really quote a beautiful historic building now. I can't wait to see what they end up doing with it.

House fire two doors down, Ilwaco, Wa.

About five mins after my alarm went off at 6:30 this morning a fire call went out in Ilwaco. A minute later Ness was telling me it was outside our window. The house two doors down was ablaze. No one was inside thankfully but the house won't be able to be lived in by the family of four. Not to help anything, the wind was incredibly strong and was hailing off and on.

This is when the power box on the outside blew, sounding like firecrackers.

Diamonds, fires and actors, Long Beach, Midway & Ilwaco, Wa.

My time at Ilwaco fastpitch and baseball practice was cut a little short when a dune grass fire went nuts up around Midway, catching a beach front home on fire. Rounded out the day with art for the preview of the Peninsula Players presentation of Little Mary Sunshine. So just your average day.

GOP caucus, Long Beach, Wa.

Today would have been the Republican primary in the state of Washington if it hadn't been cancelled for budgetary reasons. So instead, the GOP are holding caucuses. In Long Beach the gathering was at the particularly cozy old depot building. More than 100 people turned out to make their presidential preference known.
