Wrapping up district

So the district tourney wrapped up this week with both Ilwaco teams advancing to state, while both Naselle teams were eliminated.

On Wednesday Karl Oman broke the school scoring record with this three point shot that helped them beat Ridgefield and advance to their third straight state tourney, something that has never happened in the schools history. I was pretty disappointed that the pic wasn't 100% sharp, but it was "newspaper sharp" so it'll still  be okay in print.

The locker room afterward was moment after moment of celebration. Even coach Meinhart couldn't help himself and shed a tear or two of pride. And I think that may be it for me and hoops this year. The regional round of the state tourney takes place up in Snohomish, which is outside of our normal travel range. Kind of a bummer really, as the two IHS teams have been great to watch this year.

So, immediately following the boys win, I broke down my lights and was out the door to make the cross-town drive to Centralia for the NHS boys game against Morton-White Pass. The Comets played really well for the first three quarters, but got a little shaky in the fourth and couldn't hold on and were eliminated. Rob Baker had a really nice tournament, even though he didn't score a ton of points, he seemed to be involved on every play, which resulted in lots of pix.

This was the bench in the final minute of the game as they missed a chance to tie the game.
My apologies to the NHS girls team, as I was not able to make it to any of the their three playoff games.

And finally, here's one from the girls game with Rainier last Tuesday. The girls lost the game, but beat LaCenter a few days later to advance to state for the first time in like four or five years. It's a great accomplishment for the girls who have been league champs or a top seed a number of times over the last few years.
